How-To: Strobing

Strobing is one of the hottest trends for this season and since it has really become very popular and all the brands are coming out with their strobing creams, powders and all sorts of formulations, textures and finishes I decided to do a post about this trend separately just to explain what is strobing, what it is all about and how you can do it yourself at home.

What is Strobing: All About It!

Strobing is the opposite of contouring. This means that instead of focusing on giving more shape and dimension to your face through shadowing certain parts of your face to make it look slimmer, you are focusing of bringing light on the highest points of your face. The way I see it, this method is like a more optimistic perspective: focusing on what you love… on your face, of course.

Even though most people think that this is a new technique, it is in fact an older method used by makeup artists I think since the 1990s maybe even further back in time, in fashion shows to bring more light to the face. MAC which was always ahead of its time and cought the trends before anyone else even created a cream to help makeup artists get the results they wanted even faster. It has then been one of MAC’s best selling products even to the masses and it is the well known, Strobe Cream. They sell in every MAC store it is very easy for you to find it.

How To Do It At Home

A strobing product is basically the same as highlighter and you use it the same way and at the same areas you would use a highlighter. This means on the top of your cheekbones, on your nose (for that perfect, fake nose job), on your cupid’s bow, above your eyebrows, below your contour and anywhere else you’d like a lift basically.

In my opinion, MAC’s Strobe Cream is actually the best product you can use to re-create this gorgeous trend at home easily and without breaking the bank, buying the most expensive highlighters. The Strobe Cream also moisturizes your face so you can also use it as a moisturizer, too. It is quite bright though, as you can probably imagine. You can also use it of course on top of your makeup, for that perfect strobing result.

If you don’t have the Strobe Cream at home, then use your most intense highlighter at home. It will still provide a strobing result and you will still save your cash for something else.

I really do hope you found this post interesting and learnt something new today. Let me know what is your favourite strobing product in the comments below.
